How to get to Hluboká nad Vltavou

Local transport

Hluboká nad Vltavou is a small old town with a famous Hluboká chateau. It is about 10 kilometers to the north of České Budějovice, the metropolis of South Bohemia.

České Budějovice is on the main route of most of the long-distance train and bus connections. From České Budějovice you can use the very frequent bus connection to Hluboká nad Vltavou.

The bus terminal (see the pictures below) for your departure from České Budějovice to Hluboká is opposite the České Budějovice main railway station. The operation area of the terminal with a number of bus-stops is located on the roof of the building. Each of the bus-stops has its unique number. Buses to Hluboká nad Vltavou operate on stops with numbers 13, 14 and 15. The number of a stop related to a particular bus is stated in the timetables below as a subject of the Note.

There are three bus stops in Hluboká nad Vltavou (see the photo map). Two of them, "škola" and "pod hotelem" are close to the hotel, the third one "pod kostelem" is a bit distant (10-15 minutes walk). Unfortunately, most of buses connecting Hluboká nad Vltavou with České Budějovice use only one of the closer stops ("škola" or "pod hotelem"). You will find timetables corresponding to each of these stops below. We recommend you to start your search for bus connection with the timeteble related to the "škola" bus stop, continue with "pod hotelem" and, if you are not still satisfied, end with the more distant stop "pod kostelem".

Air transport

The nearest airports with bus and train connections are in:

  • Praha (Prague) /150 km to the north of České Budějovice/
    For useful information on transport from the airport to the centre of Prague (i.e. Prague central station) see the web page www.pragueairport.co.uk
    You can use the very frequent (each 2 hours) train and bus connection from Praha to České Budějovice. Then continue by bus to Hluboká nad Vltavou.
  • Linz /100 km to the south of České Budějovice/
    Train connection to České Budějovice.
  • Wien /200 km to the south east of České Budějovice/
    Train and bus connection to České Budějovice.

Railway transport

There is one main railway station in České Budějovice. It is directly connected with Praha, Plzeň, Brno, Linz and Wien.

Car transport

There is no direct highway connection to České Budějovice but the European route E55 passes through the town and connects it to highways to the south in Linz (100 km) and to the north in Praha (150 km).
