Trying RTZME on Ubuntu 10.04 Live in 10 minutes

  1. Put the Ubuntu Installation/Live CD into the CD/DVD-drive and restart the computer.

  2. You should see the “ubuntu” splash logo while the operating system is loading.

(If you don't see the splash logo, your PC requires you to hold down or press a key to boot from CD. Different manufacturers have different methods for this. For example, Toshiba and IBM computers need pressing F12 while booting to get to the boot menu and choosing
CD-ROM. Asus computers need pressing TAB key while booting and selecting CD-ROM from boot menu.)

  3. After a minute a welcome screen prompts you to choose your language and gives you the option to install Ubuntu or try it from the CD.

  4. Now choose your preferred language and click on 'Try Ubuntu 10.04' (this text will be immediately changed to selected language). However, the rest of the texts will be in English, you can use your national keyboard layout from now on.

  5. In a minute or two, your live CD desktop should appear. We assume here that your internet connection has been set up automatically and works properly.

  6. As the loading stops, some icons and menus appear on the top of the screen. Just press ALT-F2 and type

    sudo synaptic

and press ENTER. Then close the appearing 'Quick Introduction' window by clicking the 'Close' button.

  7. Now go to Settings → Repositories. In the appearing window first select the 'Community maintained Open Source software (universe)'.

Then select the 'Other Software' tab and click the 'Add...' button. Now type in the following to the 'APT line':

    deb http://matek.hu/linux lucid main

and click the 'Add Source' button. Then click the 'Close' button. A new window will pop up about 'Repository Changed' which can be closed using the 'Close' button again.

  8. Now click the 'Reload' button on the top left corner of the Synaptic Package Manager window. A window pops up about 'Downloading Package Information'. As it closes, click the small black triangle arrow in the top right corner of the window and select 'Search'. In the appearing window type

    rtzme

and press ENTER. As the window disappears, a list will be shown in the Synaptic Package Manager window on the right, containing the only entry 'rtzme'. Double click on it. A Warning will come up about untrusted packages, but ignore it, just click the 'Mark' button.

  9. Now press the 'Apply' button on the top of the window in Synaptic Package Manager and click the 'Apply' button in the bottom right corner of the appearing window. Press 'Install' below it.

(You may close both windows by clicking the third icon on the top left of each window.)

  10. Finished! You can start RTZME now by pressing ALT-F2 and typing

    rtzme

    and pressing ENTER.
