After the introduction of the typewriter and the internet, artificial intelligence (AI) is seen as one of the innovations that will significantly change education at both pre-university and university level. AI literacy means understanding how AI works, the ethical aspects of its application and the challenges it poses. Developing AI literacy is one of the biggest challenges facing the modern education system, particularly in relation to science education.
In this plenary session, examples of good practise for the use of AI in biology teaching will be presented from the perspective of future biology teachers. It will present AI tools that prospective teachers consider safe to use in the classroom, strategies they have developed for using AI in the classroom and examples of materials they have developed. A brief overview will be given of the quality of the teaching materials that preservice biology teachers developed by using AI. Particular attention will be paid to the challenges prospective teachers face when using AI in the classroom and possible ways to overcome them.
