In this presentation, we will discuss an algorithm for approximating a Dupin cyclide patch using a union of motions of circular (flat-end) and/or toroidal cutters.
We will focus on the design of an adapted curvature-matched tilt function aimed at achieving both high approximation accuracy and gouging-free contact between the cutter and the target cyclide. We will mention closed-form formulas for 2nd order line contact along arbitrary tangent directions.
Finally, the proposed algorithm will be validated and demonstrated on individual Dupin cyclide patches as well as on free-form Dupin cyclide spline surfaces.
